Highlights of learning for week ending 16.1.2026

We have had another week full of amazing fun learning and exploring new things.

In Literacy, we have been analyzing our WAGOLL to figure out how we use the past tense to tell stories. We have also learned how the use of exciting action verbs changes the picture we paint in the minds of the reader. In Maths, we have continued our enquiry into multiplication by looking at arrays. This term, we are learning all about plants in Science. This week, we decided to set up our own experiments to prove what we think plants need the most to grow big and healthy. While some of us are testing how plants grow without any sunlight, some of us are testing if they can grow without water or soil. You can see how we have set up our experiments in the photo below.

In RE we are continuing our enquiry into Islam this term. This week, we worked with Miss Walker to understand the importance of the Qur'an for Muslims and how that influences how they treat their holy book. We then created helpful posters to tell people about how to look after the Qur'an. In History, we learned all about the first flight in an engine powered airplane. We looked at the historical significance of this even of 1903 and discussed its impact on our lives today. In Music, we explored the connections between emotion and music. We listened to a wide range of music ranging from Bach to Joplin to understand how music evokes a variety of reactions and emotions in different people. Finally, in Art, we explored primary colours by playing with primary coloured paint and a variety of unusual tools for mark making. We are looking forward to using the finished paintings to create collages in our sketchbooks next week.

If I were a superhero food...
Here is a piece of writing from Isla who imagined herself as a superhero cabbage called Super Sweet Cabbage.

Highlights of learning for week ending 9.1.2026

It has been a real treat to see all the children back in the classroom again!
We had a very exciting start to the term on Tuesday with everyone eager to share their Christmas adventures. So, we started the day with a circle time to share all our stories with our friends.

As usual, we have got right back into the swing of things. In Maths, we have started a new unit of work on Multiplication and Division. This week, we have been looking at equal groups. In Literacy, we are hoping to write our own 'triumph over terror' stories based on the book Supertato by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet. This week, heave spent a lot of time looking at the original story and a WAGOLL based on original story to identify key elements we can use in our own stories.

In RE, this term we continue our enquiry into Islam with Miss Walker. This week we look at the Qur'an and how it was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. We ended the week with a big BANG with our first Art lesson of the term. This term we are exploring expressive painting. We are hoping to explore a variety of artists and learn about the use of colours and creating texture and movement in art. Today we looked at the work and process of abstract artist Charlie French. We then used our sketchbooks to capture our own reactions to his art. Take a look below at some of the sketchbook pages from today.

Finally, a very well done to:

  • Theo for getting the Ready Award for his superb work in both Maths and English.
  • Ella for getting the Respectful Award for always taking care with her presentation - you can see an example of her neat Maths work in the Headteacher's Blog.
  • Finley for getting the Safe Award after being nominated by the Positive Potato Police who noted how kind and helpful he has been this week.

And... that's a wrap!

It has been a full week of Christmas cheers and fun. In between all the Class 2 Dojo Reward afternoon and Christmas crafting, Class 2 have been able to squeeze in some hands on practical Computing and DT lessons. In Computing, we went back to Coding for Carrots to review our understanding of loops and then learned all about bugs and how we debug our algorithms. In DT, we finished up our project on moving monsters. However, we gave it a Christmas twist and used levers and linkages to create our own moving Christmas characters. We had everything from a Christmas crocodile to jumping Santa. Have a look at some of the amazing moving creations below.

Roux with his brilliant Christmas crocodile with its very wide jaws.

Sophia with her jumping Santa.

Roma with her Rudolph with moving legs.

Finley with his jumping snowman.

Finally, a very big thank you for all your help and support this term. Class 2 have had an amazing learning journey. Have a lovely break and we look forward to welcomming you all back just a little bit rested and a little bit more ready for the Spring term. Until then...

Merry Christmas one and all!

It has been a very exciting week of nativity performances and singing all round. Christmas is really in the air!

Thank you Class 2 family for all your support in helping your children learn their lines, getting their costumes together and being there to support us during all 3 performances.

This week, in Maths, we have continued our enquiry into shapes by investigating the properties of 3D shapes by counting their faces, edges and vertices. In Literacy, we have completed our instructions on how to catch Santa. No, no! It is not to trap him on his rounds on Christmas eve, and spoil Christmas for the rest of the world. No! We are planning to set an alarm so that we wake up when he comes down our chimneys because we have tons of questions and presents for him... while some of us just want to hitch a ride with him on his sleigh.

Between all the chaos of last minute nativity rehearsals and performances, we also managed to squeeze in a really fun Computing lesson where we learned about the use of loops to make our algorithms cleaner and clearer.

Its has been an exciting week of rehearsals, dress ups and trips!

Despite our topsy-turvy time tables, we have managed to get oodles of learning into our days this week. In Literacy, we have started a new unit of work - we are learning how to write instructions. We had a go at writing our own instructions for our learning partners and then looked at how we could have made them better. Then we looked at some different instructions and compared them to find out what we could include in our own. In Maths, we continued our inquiry into shapes by looking at the vertical line of symmetry. We have even had a go at completing different 2D shapes by using our knowledge of the vertical line of symmetry. Who knew using a ruler was this tricky!

We have also been working super hard at learning our cues and timings for our Nativity next week. Thank you Class 2 families for helping your children learn all their lines and for making time to get their costumes ready. We can't wait to see you all next week for our 3 super-duper performances. If you haven't got them yet, please make sure you contact the office for your tickets before its too late. However, the best part of the week was our class trip to the Sterts Theater for a fabulous puppet show. It was so awesome to see all the children so engaged and its was joy to watch their tiny eyes light up with wonder!

Finally, a very well done to:
> Sofia for getting the Ready Award for her diligence and hard work, especially during Literacy lessons.
> Ivy for getting the Respectful Award for always being polite and kind.
> Jimmy for getting the Safe Award for listening to and following instructions, and keeping safe during our trip.

Highlights of learning for week ending 28.11.2025

We have made it to the end of November and we are so very ready for December!

And what a week it has been to end the months!
This week in Literacy, we have completed our draft traditional story, edited them and wrote out our neat copies. We have a wide range of themes emerging. But I must say a certain theme is recurring in a lot of stories and I wonder if we are all excited about the special visitor due in less than a month!  Please scroll down below to look at some samples of the stories we have produced in Class 2. In Maths, we have been really having a fun learning more about 2D shapes. Today, we had a go at "accurately" drawing some 2D shapes.

In Science, we have continued our investigation into the nature of materials and sorted different materials by the way they reacted to different forces. In RE we discussed why Christians celebrate Christmas. In Geography, we learned about a country in the Equatorial region called Kenya. We leaned to say "Jambo!" and learned about Nairobi and Mombasa. We have also begun to see some similarities between our country and Kenya.

Finally, a very well done to:
> Jane for getting the Ready Award for being a super star learner this week.
> Darcie for getting the Respectful Award for always following instructions.
> Theo for getting the Safe Award for being a good friend during playtime.

What a week it has been! Nativity practice galore all wrapped up with the snow on Thursday when Class 2 managed to get out in time for the best part of the snow shower (?) in the morning. Can you believe it, we even managed a snow fight... of sorts!

In Literacy, we have all planned our traditional story in the style of the Gingerbread Man and cannot wait to begin using all our new language skills to write our story up next week. In Maths, we have finally completed our unit on Addition and Subtraction by completing our HOT TASK on Friday. I must say, I am very impressed with the progress everyone has made in their knowledge of addition and subtraction this term.

In Science, we continued our enquiry into the properties of material but setting up a fair test to compare the elasticity of different materials. In PSHE, we continued our unit on celebrating differences by discussing "Bullying." We discussed what bullying is and is not, and talked about what we could do if we see bullying in the school. Just have a look at some of the anti-bullying slogan they created for the gingerbread man's hat.

Finally, a very well done to:
> Finley for getting the Ready Award for his amazing work in Maths
> Ella for getting the Respectful Award for always using a respectful and polite voice in the classroom.
> Isla for getting the Safe Award for making sure our classroom is a safe environment for everybody by helping tidy up and following instructions.

Highlights of learning for week ending 14.11.2025

Another week has come and gone... and boy has it been a full week!

In Class 2, we are really enjoying our Literacy lesson as we write our class story about the runaway Snowman cookie. We have looked at past tense of regular verbs and been conscious of using them in our stories. We have also revisited our 2A sentences and used them (with some similies) to describe our main characters. In Maths, this week has been all about the tens and ones. We have been using a lot of deins to help us add and subtract numbers.

In Science, we conducted our first enquiry into the nature of some everyday materials and tested them for use in building a bridge. In Computing, we learned about algorithms and how we can decompose them to help us figure out what they do. In Geography, we have looked at the coldest places and located the North and South Pole. We also reminded ourselves of the 7 continents by singing along to the 7 continents song. If you would like to have a go, here is the YouTube link to the song:
https://youtu.be/KiXjGFOzY3c?si=JX2LKNtxTnuQjx3U

We have also started practicing our Nativity! Please check book bags to see if your child has a script to learn. I will also be posting the class song on Showbie soon.

Thank you everyone for your very generous donations to our Children in Need collection.

The children absolutely loved coming in their spotty / fun clothes, and we had some very interesting conversations about Pudsey Bear and why we do what we do on this day.

Finally, a very well done to:
Roma for getting the Ready Award for her amazing attitude to learning - being ready to learn at all times and doing her very best at everything she does.
Emily for getting the Respectful Award for always trying her very best to write neatly.
Lilly T for getting the Safe Award for being a super helper around the classroom.

Have a lovely weekend and see you all bright and early Monday morning.

What a jam-packed first week back it has been!

First of all, thank you everyone who made time to join us for our belated Harvest Festival performance at the Village Hall today. It was so good to see so many of you and to watch the children performing to all of you. Here is Class 2 again with their special autumn leaves they created in Art class for their special poem about Autumn leaves.

In Maths, we have continued with our unit on Addition and Subtraction. It is so amazing to watch the children not only get more confident with their mental maths, but know what resources they can use to help them with their calculations. In Literacy, we have begun a new unit. This term, we are writing a traditional story based on the story of the Gingerbread Man. We have had oodles of fun learning the story and performing it for each other using our actions to help us remember key events.

We had our first Dance lesson with Miss Walker during PE. We worked on remembering a set of actions, repeating and linking them. In RE, we looked at the significance of the Christmas story for Christians. In Science, we recapped our understanding of the difference between materials and objects, and went on a material hunt around the classroom.

Finally, a very well done to:
> Harriet for her Ready Award for her excellent work in Maths.
> Roux for his Respectful Award for his immaculate presentation.
> Freya for her Safe Award for always being such a kind and caring member of the classroom.

Highlights of learning for week ending 23.10.2025

We had a wonderful bright start to the week when we came together to celebrate Diwali on Monday.

We started the day with a video call with Miss Parul Abrol, a journalist from India, who talked to us about her understanding and own experiences of the festival of light. Then we had a morning of wonderful Diwali themed activities - making firework rangoli patterns, using our Botleys to trace kolam patterns, learning about the story of Diwali and making clay diyas. We finished off with a sumptuous lunch of Indian food that Mrs Paradise and her team had prepared.

In Literacy, we have completed our draft stories and will be writing up the neat copy when we come back after the half term break. In Maths, we have moved on to subtraction and have had a few fun sessions of using a variety of strategies to subtract a variety of numbers.

In wider curriculum, this week has been all about reflecting on our learning and recapping some of the key concepts we have learned. We really enjoyed learning about the happy chemical, endorphin, that our brain creates when we get physically active.

Thank you everyone who made time to join us for the art exhibition in Class 2.

It was lovely to see you all and share the amazing Autumn collages the children have created as part of their final art piece for the half term. We have been on an incredible journey of discovery - we have done live drawings, created Autumn colours using found natural things, explored nature journaling, explored drawing using all our senses, sketched oodles and oodles of Autumn leaves and finally explored wax resist paintings of our Autumn leaves.

And we have loved every minutes of it... as can be evidenced by the final products in class!

Thank you for all your support this half term. Have a well earned break and see you fresh and ready for more adventures next half term.
