Class 3 have had another busy and exciting week of learning! In Science, we have loved carrying out experiments, especially placing roses into blue dye and watching the petals slowly turn blue. The children were fascinated to see how the coloured water travelled through the flower.
In Computing, we have continued working with weather data and started understanding weather sensors. The children are becoming much more confident at understanding why we need data to help us predict the weather and protect us from extreme weather events.
Our History lessons have continued to focus on the fascinating Maya civilization. This week, we explored Mayan inventions and discovered that the Mayans invented rubber, which they used during some gruesome ball games!
In English, we have moved onto persuasive leaflets, encouraging readers to travel on exciting trips. In Maths, Year 3 are continuing their learning about time, while Year 4 have started their new shape unit.
A reminder that the half term finishes on Thursday 21st May at 3:20pm.

We have had another exciting week in class 3.
We have had a messy afternoon junk modelling to produce our weather stations. The children absolutely loved it and came up with some innovative designs to capture, wind, solar and rain. Throughout the afternoon, we also got chance to watch the children who are performing the May Pole dance on May Day down at the village hall. Good luck to all involved on Monday!
On Wednesday, we had our first day of a 10 week block of music by Mrs Clavier who is an external music teacher that we have got funding for. In the lesson, Mrs Clavier introduced the children to a 1 off lesson on Garageband to produce and remix their own music. A week on Wednesday when she is back in, the children will be starting to learn the ukulele which is something to look forward to.
In History, the children continued their learning about the Mayans and started to play the role of an archeologist by exploring different ruins and suggesting what they could have been used for.
In Science, we learnt about the different parts of a plant and their main role. A lot of children were surprised that the leaves make the food for the plant by combining water, CO2 and nutrients in a process called photosynthesis!
Next week is another incredible week with Porthpean starting on Wednesday and carrying on until Friday!

It has been brilliant to have the children back at school this week. It has been especially enjoyable to have such lovely weather to be able to get on the field at breaktimes.
We have kicked the term off with learning about money in maths and going onto difficult calculations such as finding change.
We have started learning about the Mayans in history and their incredibly long and successful reign. We also discussed how they were such an innovate civilisation.
For Science, we have started learning about plants and have begun the term with an experiment to see how much of a different fertiliser makes. We have planted some cress in non fertilised soil and some cress in fertilised soil. We are looking forward to seeing the results.
In PE, we have been doing dodgeball and athletics. In computing, we are learning about the weather and how to predict what the weather will be like.
It has been another busy, productive week of learning!

It has been an exciting week in Class 3! We had a visit from a space dome, where the children experienced a magical light and sound presentation that really brought their learning to life.
In Science, we finished our solar oven experiments. Although the sun wasn't the kindest, the children focused on creating a fair test by changing only one variable.
In Computing, we have continued working on surveys, learning how to access results and present them using spreadsheets.
In English, we have started our new unit, The Egyptian Cinderella, focusing on using speech to enhance writing.
In Geography, we have been exploring the megacity of New Delhi and comparing it to our local area-spotting some big differences!

Class 3 have had another busy and exciting week of learning! In science, we have begun planning and preparing our solar oven investigations. The children are carefully considering how factors such as size, materials, angle and position might affect how well a solar oven works, and have been making thoughtful predictions ahead of testing their ideas.
We also enjoyed a fantastic RNLI assembly last week, where the children learned how to stay safe in and around water. They explored important safety messages, including what to do if they get into difficulty and how to help others safely. It was an engaging and valuable experience for everyone.
In PE, we have continued developing the fundamentals of sport, focusing on balance, agility and fitness through a range of activities. The children have shown great enthusiasm and teamwork.
In English, we have completed our neat instruction texts and are now moving on to narratives, with a focus on using and punctuating speech correctly to bring stories to life.
In computing, we have been creating surveys. You may have received a QR code linking to your child's work-please take a look and see what they have been able to achieve!
This week in class has been full of exciting learning across the curriculum. In science, we explored freezing and boiling points, carrying out investigations and discussing how temperatures affect materials. In history, we created fact files about Ancient Egyptian gods, including Anubis. Did you know that Anubis was the god of mummification and the afterlife and was often shown with the head of a jackal? In computing, we continued learning about the parts of a computer, focusing on the roles of ROM and RAM. Basketball has remained a success, with pupils practising how to protect the ball from a defender. In English, we have begun writing setting descriptions, which are already brilliant pieces of writing that paint a picture in the mind of the reader.

We have had an absolutely fantastic week in Class 3, with the highlight being our amazing school trip to Truro Museum on Wednesday to support our learning about Ancient Egypt. The children were brilliantly engaged as we explored pharaohs and the fascinating mummification process. Did you know the Ancient Egyptians believed the brain was useless and that the heart was responsible for who you were and the decisions you made? The children were fascinated by this! Behaviour throughout the trip was excellent, and the children represented the school superbly. We were lucky enough to view real Ancient Egyptian artefacts, including flint tools, amulets (lucky charms) and beautifully decorated pots. We also learned about the many gods the Ancient Egyptians worshipped and discovered just how greedy and expensive their beliefs and rituals could be.
In Science, we carried out an exciting investigation into melting points. We tested gummy bears, white, milk and dark chocolate, cheese, mozzarella and butter. Surprisingly, mozzarella had the highest melting point, while butter melted the fastest!
In Maths, both year groups are moving into our new unit on length and perimeter.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support, and a special thank you for helping get the children into school earlier on Wednesday so we could fully enjoy our day out.

This week in Class 3 has been a very positive one. We welcomed two sets of visitors on Monday and Wednesday who spent time observing our Maths lessons and general morning work. They were delighted with the children's effort, positive attitudes to learning and the progress they are making across the curriculum.
In PSHE, we have been exploring why it is important to have dreams and goals for the future. The children reflected thoughtfully on their own aspirations, creating "dream leaves" to represent what they hope to achieve.
Our History learning has continued with a focus on Ancient Egypt, where we have begun discussing what makes an Ancient Civilisation and locating Ancient Egypt on a map.
In Maths, Year 4 have been learning the short written method of multiplication, while Year 3 have moved on to division using a part-whole model for support.
In Science, we investigated how water particles behave when heated and cooled.
In Computing, we are learning about the different parts of a computer and finally in PE, we are developing skills in Netball and Basketball.
