
We've had an exciting week full of learning and creativity!
In Science, we've been exploring circuits-discovering how electricity flows and what makes a circuit complete. Students have been experimenting with switches, bulbs, and batteries to see how everything connects.
In English, our imaginations have taken flight as we write fantasy adventure stories inspired by The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Everyone is creating their own magical worlds, filled with unique characters and thrilling quests.
In Geography, we've been learning about migration-why people and animals move from one place to another, and how these journeys shape cultures and ecosystems.
It's been a wonderful mix of science, storytelling, and global understanding. We can't wait to share more of our work soon!

This week has been full of exciting discoveries across our classes! In Year 5, we've been exploring the fascinating world of numbers, learning how prime numbers stand out as the building blocks of mathematics and how square numbers create perfect patterns. Year 6 has been diving deeper into fractions, mastering how to find equivalent fractions and why they matter in everyday problem-solving. Meanwhile, in science, we've turned our attention to population growth, uncovering how living things multiply and what factors influence their survival. From circuits sparking curiosity in our electrical lessons to patterns and proportions in maths, it's been a week of connecting ideas and seeing how numbers and science shape the world around us!

This week has been full of excitement and learning for our class! We kicked things off with a lively netball tournament that brought out everyone's team spirit and competitive edge. Alongside the sports action, we've started rehearsing for the upcoming school play, diving into scripts and getting creative with our roles. In the classroom, we explored the fascinating topic of population growth, discussing its causes, impacts, and what it means for the future of our planet. It's been a great mix of physical activity, artistic expression, and intellectual discovery!


Here is some writing from our history this week. We have been reflecting on the importance on the census and what information it gives us about the time.
This week, Year 6 have been tackling the challenge of long division, showing great determination as they break down complex problems step by step, while Year 5 have been developing their reasoning skills by working out missing numbers in a variety of contexts. Both year groups have also begun exploring the magical opening of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, discussing the atmosphere and characters introduced by C.S. Lewis. In history, the children have been learning about the importance of the census and how it helps historians understand the past, from population changes to the types of jobs people once had-an exciting blend of maths, literacy, and historical thinking!

We have access to White Rose Infinity for homework. This generates 5 questions based on the Maths learning for the week. The questions change each time you scan the code so you can use it several times during the week. As this is new, it would be great to get your feedback as to how effective it is with pupils. We'd like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents and families who joined us for our art exhibition this week. The children were so proud to showcase their creativity, and it was wonderful to see such enthusiastic support from our school community. Your presence truly made the event special!
In class, we've also been busy writing up our non-chronological reports, exploring how to organize information clearly and effectively. The children have shown great progress in their writing skills and have enjoyed researching and presenting their topics.
Additionally, we've been celebrating Diwali, learning about the traditions, stories, and significance of the Festival of Lights. The children took part in some beautiful craft activities and thoughtful discussions, helping us all appreciate the richness of this cultural celebration.

This week has been full of energy and creativity as we've been rehearsing for our upcoming Harvest Festival, with some truly impressive solo singing performances from the children. In class, Year 6 have been mastering division methods while Year 5 have been exploring inverse operations with great enthusiasm. We've also been busy writing up our non-chronological reports on the Victorians, showcasing some excellent historical research and writing skills. A big thank you to all the parents who joined us in class this morning to see our maths work in action-it was wonderful to have you with us!

This week in class, we've been writing parts of a non-chronological report using Tier 3 vocabulary to make our work more precise and informative. In Maths, Year 6 have been practising long multiplication, while Year 5 have focused on written methods for addition and subtraction. In Science, we've been investigating the best place to put a sunshade as part of our topic on light, exploring how shadows are formed and how light travels.

Year 5 have been rounding large numbers to the nearest 10,000 and 100,000, and have shown great confidence with place value. In Science, we've been investigating shadows and discovered that moving an opaque object closer to a light source makes the shadow larger. In English, we've started a new unit on non-chronological reports and are beginning to understand the features. It's been a great week of learning!

In class this week, we explored how stories can teach important lessons by including a moral, such as the value of honesty or kindness. We also practiced rounding numbers to the nearest ten, hundred, thousand, ten thousand and hundred thousand helping us understand place value and how it makes estimating easier in everyday life. In science, we investigated how periscopes work, using mirrors to reflect light and allow us to see over or around objects-just like submarines do! Each activity helped us think creatively, solve problems, and understand the world a little better.
